Who is Left Eye?
Left Eye (Lisa Lopes) was a rapper and singer from Philadelphia, and one third of TLC together with T-Boz and Chilli. She died in a car accident in Honduras in 2002.
Known for
TLC's albums CrazySexyCool (1994) and FanMail (1999). She co-wrote hits like "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg" and "Waterfalls" and helped shape their award-winning videos. In 2001 she released a solo album, Supernova.
Style
Quick, playful and sharp rap verses that gave TLC's R&B a hip-hop edge. Bold and unpredictable, with a colorful look to match, like the condom she wore over her eye.
Impact
Left Eye made the rap verse a key part of '90s R&B and helped TLC talk openly about safe sex, HIV and self-respect.
