Ol' Dirty Bastard
The wild, unpredictable heart of the Wu-Tang Clan, with a style no one has ever been able to copy.
Who is Ol' Dirty Bastard?
Ol' Dirty Bastard (Russell Jones) was a rapper from Brooklyn, New York, and a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, together with his cousins RZA and GZA. He died in 2004.
Known for
His solo debut Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version (1995), with "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" and "Brooklyn Zoo", and "Got Your Money" with Kelis (1999). His surprise feature on Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" remix became legendary.
Style
Off-key singing, slurred rhymes, grunts and laughter: chaotic, funny and completely unpredictable, both on record and in public.
Impact
ODB showed that personality and freedom can be just as powerful as technique. He gave the Wu-Tang Clan its wild edge and remains one of hip-hop's most unique characters.
