Los Angeles put the West Coast on the map. Ice-T helped invent gangsta rap in the mid-'80s, and Ice Cube went from N.W.A to a solo career and Hollywood.
In the '90s Snoop Dogg from Long Beach and Death Row Records made G-funk the sound of the decade, and Cypress Hill from South Gate added Latino flavor and rock.
A new generation took over in the 2010s: Odd Future with Tyler, the Creator, Syd and The Internet, and Vince Staples from North Long Beach, who showed how wide the city's sound has become.
