Ludacris
Atlanta rapper with a booming voice, razor-sharp punchlines and wild videos, who made Southern rap impossible to ignore.
Who is Ludacris?
Ludacris (Christopher Bridges) is a rapper and actor from Atlanta, Georgia. He was born in Champaign, Illinois, and worked as a radio DJ in Atlanta before his rap career took off.
Known for
Ludacris ran the early 2000s, from Back for the First Time (2000) to Release Therapy (2006), which won the Grammy for Best Rap Album. His videos were wild and over-the-top, from the giant fists in "Stand Up" to the cartoonish heads in "Rollout". He also became a familiar face in the Fast & Furious films.
Style
A booming voice, theatrical delivery and punchlines that land like heavyweight hooks. He has one of the fastest and clearest flows in hip-hop: rapid-fire on "Southern Hospitality" and "Act a Fool", but every word perfectly enunciated.
Impact
Ludacris proved Southern rap could be lyrical, fun and commercially dominant at the same time, and helped open doors for the next generation of Atlanta artists, from T.I. to 2 Chainz.
