No borough has produced more hip-hop legends than Brooklyn. Big Daddy Kane set the lyrical bar in the late '80s, and in the '90s The Notorious B.I.G. from Bed-Stuy and Jay-Z from the Marcy Projects became two of the greatest rappers of all time.
Brooklyn was also home to Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown, MC Lyte, Busta Rhymes and Ol' Dirty Bastard. Gang Starr and Jeru The Damaja defined the boom-bap sound, and Black Star, with Mos Def and Talib Kweli, made Brooklyn the center of conscious rap.
Later generations kept the tradition alive: Joey Bada$$ revived '90s boom-bap in 2012, Young MA broke through with “OOOUUU”, and Brooklyn drill took the borough's sound back to the charts.
